Norfolk Coast path and Peddars Way

Routes offered on this trail

The Norfolk Coast path and Peddars way have been combined to provide a fantastic long distance walking trail.  Starting inland at Knettishall Heath County Park in Suffolk, following the old Roman road, now known as the Peddars way, to the coast at Holme-next-the-Sea.  Here the route then changes to follow the coastal path along the north coast line, and then continuing down the east coast of Norfolk.  Most of the Coastal path is an Area Of Outstanding Beauty, passing through beautiful seaside towns and villages as well as crossing tidal marshes, which are teeming with wildlife.

The most popular section to walk is along the north coastline of Norfolk, with beautiful golden beaches, mud flats and salt marshes, the perfect place to spot wildlife, including grey seals and a huge variety of coastal living birds.

On route you will also have chance to visit Castle Acre Priory, the famous red and white striped cliffs at Hunstanton and an immense number of nature reserves including Halkham National nature reserve, which also includes Holkham hall.

Due to the flat nature of the landscape, the terrain is classed as easy to moderate. You can walk the whole route of this path, covering both the Peddars way and the Norfolk coast path or just a preferred section. All routes are offered in one direction.

The mileage shown below is from where the Norfolk Coastal path and Pedders Way starts and finishes each day and is for your guidance only. A large part of this walk includes along rural coastal areas, so you will find that sometimes the accommodations are very close to the path and other times you will need to walk a little further to reach your accommodation.  You will not be asked to walk any further than one and a half miles from the path to your accommodation unless other wise specified.  Please see the Itinerary pages for more details.

Please be aware that due to this being a coastal walk, there are high tide and low tide times to take into account.  Sometimes an inland detour is unavoidable and can add additional mileages to your days walk.

Dates to avoid in the area, due to large events taking all of the accommodation.
